Balloon Rides NY FAQ

Balloon Ride NY

Where do we fly?
Ballooning is a sport best enjoyed in non congested areas where there are plenty of places to land. All flights depart from Randall Airport in Middletown, NY. The beautiful rolling hills and green pastures of Orange County will drift silently below us as we float on the wind.

Where do we land?
Your pilot will choose a landing site that is large enough to deflate and pack up the balloon. Most landowners are thrilled to see a beautiful balloon land on their property.

How high do we fly?
We fly anywhere from treetop level to about 3,000 feet. If it’s calm enough, we can go even higher.

How long is the ride?
We offer a variety of different flight packages.  The short flights are 20-30 minutes long and the traditional champagne flights are 45-60 minutes in the air.

How many people fit in the basket?
We have three balloons. Our big baskets will comfortably hold up to six to eight passengers, plus the pilot. The smaller balloon will carry 4 passengers and the pilot.

Is it windy in the balloon?
No. Since we are moving with the wind, you will not feel a breeze at all.

When do we fly?
We fly every day at sunrise. This is when the winds are calmest. Call for further details.

What if we get bad weather?
All flights are made wind and weather permitting. We get the updated weather forecast at 8pm the night before your flight.  We will contact you with a text to let you know if the morning weather is favorable for flying.  In the event of inclement weather, we will reschedule with you for another day.

How do we get back to the launch field?
We are in constant radio contact with our crew on the ground. When we land, they will be there waiting for us. We will pack the balloon away and load it on our trailer. Our chase vehicles will comfortably accommodate all of our passengers with heat/AC as we head back to Randall Airport.

Can I bring a camera?
Of course! A camera or GoPro is a must for a balloon ride. We ask that you listen to the pilot’s instructions for stowing your equipment for landing.

Is it cold in the balloon?
No. The temperatures aloft are about the same as they are on the ground. Dress should be appropriate for the season. We ask that you wear long pants and no open toed shoes.

How much does it cost?
See the Pricing page for details.

Do I need reservations?
Yes. We ask for two weeks in advance, but try to accommodate last minute bookings. If you have any other questions, feel free to call us at (845)692-2556. If you prefer, you can e-mail us by clicking this e-mail link!
